# Evolocumab naast empagliflozine verandert LDL-subdeeltjes bij type 2 diabetes

In een vooraf gespecificeerde analyse van een gerandomiseerde trial werd onderzocht of toevoeging van de PCSK9-remmer evolocumab aan empagliflozine bij type 2 diabetes het LDL-fenotype en lipidoom verandert. Naast de bekende LDL-cholesterolverlaging werden verschuivingen in LDL-subdeeltjes gevonden, wat kan bijdragen aan het begrip van de cardiovasculaire voordelen van deze combinatietherapie.

In a pre-specified analysis of a randomised trial, the addition of the PCSK9 inhibitor evolocumab to empagliflozin in type 2 diabetes was found to alter LDL subparticle composition and the lipidome beyond standard LDL-cholesterol reduction, potentially contributing to the cardiovascular benefits of this combination therapy.

## Abstract (original, from the publication)

Sodium–glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors (PCSK9i) reduce cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetes. Whether these benefits are partly mediated by modifications in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) phenotype, beyond changes in LDL-cholesterol levels, remains unknown.
